Josef Granitzer grew up on the farm of his parents in Großkirchheim Döllach - Carinthia (today Göritz). He was intended as a courtier. To earn money, he took on various odd jobs. So he was hired by a company to help with rock-cutting work on the road between Plomberg and Scharfling. On October 11, 1984, he stumbled over a hose and crashed into the street. Josef Granitzer died - only 22 years old - from the consequences of the accident.
The family arranged the erection of a Marterl made by a local carpenter. Only rarely could relatives come to the scene of the accident. August Meindl noticed years ago that the Marterl had to be repaired. He got in touch with the family and got to work with their consent. On March 19, 2006, he restored the renovated Marterl at the accident site again.
In October 2014, with the help of community workers in Großkirchheim, it was possible to find relatives of Josef Granitzer. A little later, a sister of the casualty was on the occasion of a club outing in the area. She not only attended the Marterl but also met Mr. August Meindl, who was very happy to meet relatives of a small monument he had repaired.
