The Wolfgangsee Advent is a celebration of tradition and home, nestled in the picturesque landscape of the Salzkammergut and located directly on the lake shore. Visitors can travel between the charming villages of St. Gilgen, Strobl and St. Wolfgang on the WolfgangseeSchifffahrt boat service and experience the magic of the Advent season. The villages provide an enchanting backdrop for the Advent market, which invites visitors to linger with its lovingly decorated wooden huts and sparkling lights.
The Schafberg Railway and the Zwölferhorn cable car offer the opportunity to explore the local mountains of Lake Wolfgang. The illuminated Advent train of the Schafberg Railway takes visitors to the Schafbergalm. Floating on the water is the 16-metre-high ORF Peace Light lantern, a symbol of Advent on Lake Wolfgang, which can be admired from boats and from the shore. Europe's largest box nativity scene awaits you in Strobl, and atmospheric brass musicians parade through the Advent markets every day from 5 p.m.
Since 2024, the illuminated Schattenhirtenpfad (Shadow Shepherd's Path) on the Postalm, far away from the hustle and bustle, has been inviting visitors to take a contemplative walk at an altitude of 1,200 metres.
Our tip for you: ‘When it gets dark in the village’: Every Wednesday, the Advent markets in Strobl and St. Wolfgang are illuminated by hundreds of candles, torches, lanterns and fire pits. The electric lights are turned off.
