Like many of his artistic contemporaries, Arnold Schönberg sought out summer holidays away from urban distractions to give free rein to his creativity during extended stays in the countryside. The composer, painter and writer Arnold Schönberg spent his summer holidays at Lake Traunsee six times between 1905 and 1923.

He stayed at the Gasthof Hois'n for several summers. Schönberg created chamber music, songs, piano pieces, paintings and drawings at Lake Traunsee. The first twelve-tone composition in music history was written in Traunkirchen in July 1921. The exhibition traces Schönberg's creative years at Lake Traunsee, sketches a panorama of important encounters between modern artists and thematises the anti-Semitism of the early 1920s in the Salzkammergut away from the idyll.
