A remarkable house and its restoration
www.stadtmuseum.at

After three years of construction, Franz Lehár's villa can now be visited again. A comprehensive restoration of the house and its furnishings has once again made it possible to view the life and work of probably the most important composer of the Silver Age of operetta. Franz Lehár bequeathed the villa to the municipality with the task of preserving it and making it accessible as a museum. Now the villa is once again open to interested visitors and Lehár is looking forward to welcoming many guests.

The extraordinary artist's villa, which has been run as a museum since Franz Lehár's death, has been extensively renovated and has been open again since May 2024. After stabilising the building and installing a lift system, the entire building services were renewed. Restorers were subsequently tasked with restoring all surfaces in line with the restoration objectives defined by the Federal Monuments Office. Many valuable furnishings and fittings had to be professionally cleaned and restored.

The authentic charm of this building, with the special aesthetic and tactile qualities of the surfaces, could be preserved and continued despite considerable structural measures.

Mag. Daniel Resch, Conservator for Upper Austria, museum director Maria Sams and the architects in charge of the project will guide visitors through this outstanding building with musical accompaniment.

A special children's programme will also be provided.

In addition, the exhibition on the restoration of the Lehár Villa "Dialogue with Franz" will be on display.
