Officially, this square has only been called "Rathausplatz" since 1890. However, the name was already in use before then. Until the 19th century, the entire area from Trauntor to Christophstor (now Stadttheater/Theatergasse) was called "Unterer Platz" or "Unterer Markt".
The names "Stadtplatz" and "Seeplatz" were also in use. ("Stadtplatz" is still often used by locals today.) ...
