In July 1990, Gertraud Lettner crashed his bicycle. Her then 17-year-old daughter, who drove behind her, had to watch the terrible accident. Despite quick help, the quadruple mother could not be saved. She died the next day as a result of the heavy fall. The text on the Marterl gives an idea of the immeasurable suffering the family met then.

In a bicycle crash in this place
God took my dear Gertraud away to him.
Little Lukas, only 3 months old,
lost his mother much too soon with his 3 siblings.
With the sadness in our eyes
we look to fate.
The deeper meaning is hidden from us,
keep quiet for a while and share our worries.
Take time for a short prayer,
None of us know when to end is the way.
