Mid-March is the time every year - after the winter, everyone in Bad Aussee looks forward to the hustle and bustle of the weekly market in Aussee. Then, every Thursday between 7 a.m. and 12 p.m., the Chlumeckyplatz is transformed into a colorful meeting place for market stall operators, customers and onlookers.
If Thursday is a holiday, the market takes place on Wednesday.
As early as 1400 AD, the first verifiable weekly market in Aussee was mentioned. Since then, goods from the Enns Valley could be imported duty-free. In 1523, Aussee had its own market regulations.
For many centuries this market was a tradition until it was abandoned at the beginning of the 20th century.
Thanks to resourceful initiators, this idea was taken up again and a new era of the Aussee weekly market began in 1984.
