The city of Gmunden is bringing back a traditional event that was once very popular and well-known far beyond the city limits: For the first time since 2009, the Old Town Festival will take place again this year on Saturday, September 12, from 5:00 p.m. to midnight.
The Old Town Festival will take place only if the weather is nice.
Visitors can look forward to an entertaining program of music and culinary delights at the Marktplatz, Rinnholzplatz, and Kirchengasse—and admission is free.
Music continues to take center stage at the three locations—which means the entire downtown area is a stage.
Rinnholzplatz: 5:00 p.m. to approx. 8:00 p.m., MaChiato with Ernst
followed by Günter Schiller
Market Square: 5:00 p.m. to approx. 8:00 p.m. Charly Haidecker
followed by A.M.S. Die Band
Kirchengasse: 5:00 p.m. to approx. 8:00 p.m. Salon Plüsch
followed by Krauhölzl Musi
There’s plenty for the little ones, too: While parents stroll through downtown and stop here and there as the mood strikes, the kids can enjoy the varied children’s program.
Should hunger or thirst strike, Gmunden’s restaurateurs are on hand with all kinds of delicacies, ensuring that not only your ears but also your palate are treated to something special.
“The Old Town Festival is a celebration for the people of Gmunden, for Gmunden’s clubs and organizations, but also for visitors from outside the town, such as those from neighboring communities,” says Mayor Stefan Krapf, who is particularly pleased that the event is finally taking place again after a 17-year hiatus. “Great food, fantastic bands, and the chance to meet people—it’s a wonderful way to wrap up the summer.” The Old Town Festival has a long tradition, according to Krapf. “And as mayor, it was important to me that this tradition be revived.” In short: a season finale after a summer in the tourist town of Gmunden, where people come together once more to enjoy a convivial and cozy atmosphere.
