The traditional Corpus Christi procession has been taking place on Lake Hallstatt for many, many years. This popular national holiday, steeped in local, historic tradition, will be celebrated next to and on Lake Hallstatt. 9:00 a.m. High Pontifical Mass in the Catholic Parish Church, followed by a procession on the lake.
When in Hallstatt all the inhabitants of the village decorate their "carriages", the traditional boats on the lake with foliage and flowers and the whole village puts on its holiday dress, then it is Christmas. The Jesuits once introduced the magnificent procession to Hallstatt. Because the small saline town had so little space on land, the procession was once moved to the lake using boats and salt ships, not least to get a view of the Salzberg, the millennia-old working place of the Hallstatt people.
