Discover Japanese Textile Art – in Collaboration with Culture Screen
Pop-up I October 15–18, 2026 | Galerie AM FLUSS, Bad Ischl

October 17 & 18 as part of the Upper Austria Open Studios and Galleries Days

Opening hours:
Thu, Oct. 15: Opening reception starting at 5:00 p.m.
Fri, Oct. 16, 11:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m.

For a limited time, Japanese aesthetics are making their way into Galerie AM FLUSS with Wabisabi Vintage Kimono Fashion. Behind Wabisabi is Vera Redlich, who transforms her passion for Japanese vintage kimonos and obis into extraordinary, one-of-a-kind textile pieces. Using original fabrics made of silk, brocade, and cotton, she creates fashion, accessories, and select home design pieces —each item handmade and imbued with its own story, materiality, and distinctive character.

What makes a kimono a work of art? What stories do fabrics, colors, and patterns tell—and what happens when traditional Japanese textiles are reinterpreted today? The pop-up engages in a dialogue with the exhibition “Culture Screen.” The focus is on Japanese textile art, cultural heritage, and the question of how traditional imagery and materials are reinterpreted in contemporary art. Visitors can discover Vera Redlich’s unique creations firsthand, experience the extraordinary fabrics and details up close, and talk with her about her work and her fascination with Japanese textiles.
Especially on the weekend: On Saturday, October 17, and Sunday, October 18, the AM FLUSS Gallery is participating in Upper Austria’s Open Studios and Galleries Days. A wonderful opportunity to combine a visit to the Wabi-Sabi pop-up with a tour of the entire “Culture Screen” exhibition: In addition to the works at the AM FLUSS Gallery, the exhibition is also on view at the Hotel Austria – Museum of the City of Bad Ischl. This allows visitors to experience “Culture Screen” at both venues and discover the dialogue between contemporary art, Japanese aesthetics, and textile design.
