Hans Greil Exhibition at the Museum.Ebensee

Exhibition: “Hans Greil—Mentor to a Generation. Pioneer of Woodcarving in the Salzkammergut.”

Hans Greil (1845–1909), a teacher and the first director of the Hallstatt Woodworking School and later the Ebensee Woodworking School, was, in addition to his pedagogical work, a renowned wood sculptor and carver whose influence extended far beyond the Salzkammergut region.
Greil created altars, such as the high altar in Litschau and the altar in the Wallsee Castle Chapel. Among other things, he also designed the model for the Franz Carl Fountain in Bad Ischl. The Stations of the Cross on Kalvarienberg and the tabernacle in the Catholic parish church in Ebensee are also by Hans Greil.
The Museum.Ebensee is dedicating a small exhibition to this artist and pioneer of woodcarving in the Salzkammergut, which will be on view starting July 9 during the museum’s opening hours.
