On the Solemnity of the Assumption of Mary into Heaven, a program between baroque tonal language, romantic expressiveness and contemporary reflection will be performed in the parish church of St. Wolfgang at the end of the KirchKlang Festival 2026.

Starting with Johann Sebastian Bach's concentrated Fuga sopra il Magnificat, a wide musical arc unfolds through various epochs of sacred music. Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy's motet "Hora est" opens a polyphonic sound space between expectation and collection, which is followed by Thomas Daniel Schlee's Stabat Mater from op. 18 - a work of quiet urgency that has a special resonance in memory of the composer who died in November 2025.

Domenico Scarlatti's large-scale Stabat Mater for ten voices deepens this spiritual dimension with impressive polyphonic tension. Anton Heiller's Fantasia super "Salve Regina" takes the Marian idea further into the tonal language of the 20th century, before Mendelssohn leads the evening to an open, luminous conclusion with Ave Maria and Te Deum.

The Company of Music under the direction of Johannes Hiemetsberger is one of Austria's most distinguished vocal ensembles. As a "vocal orchestra", it combines precision, stylistic openness and programmatic curiosity. Together with the organists Eivind Berg and Erich Traxler, the result is a concert that brings voices and organ into a broad, multi-layered dialog.

The result is a multi-layered Magnificat for the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, in which tradition, memory and the present come together.
