Exhibition: 800 Years of Law and Constitution

the Transylvanian Saxons

At the heart of the traveling exhibition is a unique historical document: the “Andreanum” from 1224. With this medieval charter, King Andrew II of Hungary granted the German settlers in southern Transylvania far-reaching rights and freedoms—a remarkable foundation for self-government, cohesion, and cultural development. Over the centuries, the Andreanum was confirmed, expanded, and respected. It made the Transylvanian Saxons a state-supporting estate and shaped their lives well into the present day.

The traveling exhibition is trilingual (German, English, Romanian) and is aimed at anyone interested in history, law, and identity. It invites visitors to discover, marvel, and understand—and shows how a piece of parchment continues to have an impact to this day.

Opening hours of the special exhibition: Thursday, 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. (except on public holidays)

7:00 p.m. Welcome and introduction by Dr. Harald Roth (German Cultural Forum for Eastern Europe, Potsdam) and Thomas Sindilariu (Undersecretary in the Department for Interethnic Relations of the Romanian Government in Bucharest) – a dialogue that brings history to life.

Musical accompaniment: Wind quintet of the Siebenbürger Vorchdorf Music Association Followed by: a cozy conclusion with light refreshments
