Ransonnet diving bell - experience art under water
As part of the REGATTA Water Days, Nußdorf am Attersee is exhibiting a faithful reproduction of Eugen von Ransonnet's historic diving bell. The Austrian painter and naturalist was the first to paint underwater - with a view through the bell directly into the underwater world. The exhibition brings this pioneering project to life in a unique way.
📍 Location: Town square, 4865 Nußdorf am Attersee
🕒 O pening hours: From Thursday, 9.10.2025 (free access in the outdoor area)
The Austrian painter, naturalist and diplomat had a special bell made for him in 1864, which enabled him to observe the seabed at close range in tropical waters - and to paint at the same time. With his diving bell, he created works that were not only artistically but also scientifically significant.
