It used to be one of the most modern, now it is one of the oldest existing steam pumps. Since 1954, the last remaining steam pump in Gmunden stood at the gasworks in Gmunden. Unfortunately, it was hardly ever seen there. To stop it falling into disrepair, it was renovated and has been standing in front of the guest centre in Gmunden since July 2023.
It was first used in 1892.
With a second steam pump, it supplied the whole of Gmunden with around 500 cubic metres of water every day. The steam pump has a length of 10 metres and a height and width of 3 metres. In the past, the flywheel caused the pistons to swing back and forth, creating negative and positive pressure. At negative pressure, on the other hand, the water was pumped into the mains and distributed.
The steam pump can be viewed around the clock
