At the northern foot of the Höllengebirge mountains, in Altmünster, lies the 1.5-hectare Taferlklaussee lake. Once artificially created, it is now a nature reserve and important local recreation area. A raised bog with an accompanying grey alder meadow has developed on the inaccessible southern shore.

The high moor in the mountains of Bad Ischl in the Salzkammergut is a nature reserve and is most easily accessible for hikers and walkers from the Predigstuhl car park in Bad Goisern. From here, a short walk of just under half an hour leads first to the Rossmoosalm and then on to the Atzmoos.
