For an adult audience as well as for children and families, Helmut Wittmann has made a name for himself as a storyteller. He was and is a guest at festivals all over Austria, but internationally from Germany to Russia and Iran to India. At the request of Helmut Wittmann, UNESCO included fairy telling in Austria in the list of intangible cultural heritage. He mostly tells in Upper Austrian dialect, but also in High German at international festivals. There are also bilingual storytelling programs. Language barriers are overcome in a playful way. With fairy tale evenings, legends hikes, fairy tale dinners and seminars, he works to revitalize the alpine narrative tradition. In the ORF, Helmut Wittmann creates his monthly legendary hour on Radio Upper Austria and Radio Salzburg.
