Autumn is walking time in Austria! Pleasant temperatures throughout the day and the clearest view of the mountains of the whole year make for the perfect time to discover the Austrian Lakes District.

General information:
Daily stages are introductory to moderately difficult, hiking distances can be adjusted easily by public transport. A reasonable fitness level and basic hiking equipment like good hiking shoes, rucksack, rain and sun protection, functional clothing and also a warmer jacket or pullover are necessary to enjoy your trip.

itinerary

1. day   Arrival in the world cultural heritage region Hallstatt-Dachstein / Salzkammergut
In Bad Goisern you receive your travel documents along with a welcome drink and a souvenir from the Salzkammergut.
Overnight stay in Bad Goisern.
 
2. day   Bad Goisern – “Ostuferwanderweg” trail – Hallstatt, ~ 5 h, 18 km
altitude difference: á 115 m / â 100 m
From St. Agatha to the Lake Hallstaettersee and along the eastern shore - with magnificent views of Hallstatt and the Dachstein Glacier - to Obertraun and further on to Hallstatt.
Overnight stay in Hallstatt.
 
3. day   “Weg durch die Wildnis” trail to Bad Aussee, ~ 6 h, 20 km
altitude difference ascent/descent: á 340 m / â 200 m
A scenic trail leads above the village Obertraun to the Koppenbrüllerhöhle cave (guided tour included!). Afterwards you follow the Traun river on the "Weg durch die Wildnis" trail through   the wild yet romantic Koppental valley to Bad Aussee
Overnight stay in Bad Aussee.
 
4. day   Bad Aussee – Oberleislingalm – Bad Goisern, ~ 8 h, 23 km
altitude difference: á 728 m / â 901 m
From Bad Aussee you walk past the Alpengarten (lovely Alpine garden well worth seeing) and the historic salt mountain of Aussee through a gorgeous mountain pasture area to Bad Goisern.

Accommodation:
Twin-bedded rooms in Austrian resorts are normally one large base with two mattresses/duvets. These are also known as 'Austrian Twins' and are regarded as two beds. Separate twin beds are rare and cannot be guaranteed as available.
Location of the accommodation are mainly close to the trails.
 
Information for arrivals by car:
The parking place does not always situate next to the accommodation but on a public parking place. (Possibly costs have to be paid on spot)
 
Dogs:
Dogs are allowed in the accommodations on request, often for a small fee. Extra costs have to be paid on spot. Austrian law requires that dogs must wear a leash or a muzzle!
