Bad Ischl, Bahnhof Bad Ischl (railway station and bus station)
Führungen, Fahrten, Touren, Vergnügungsveranstaltung, Folklore, Umzug, Nostalgiefahrt, Sonstige Vergnügungsveranstaltung

On August 15, the special steam train—a nostalgic steam train with passenger cars—will travel to Bad Ischl for the grand opening of the Emperor’s Festival. Then, as now, the Emperor’s arrival in Bad Ischl is a spectacular event! The journey, filled with numerous amazing performances, is therefore a real treat not only for railroad enthusiasts but also for young and old alike!

Imperial Train Arrives in Bad Ischl on August 15 Without a Steam Locomotive

On Saturday, August 15, 2026, the Imperial Train will arrive in Bad Ischl as planned—but without a steam locomotive.

The reason for this is the ongoing drought and the associated increased risk of fire. Under these conditions, flying sparks from a steam locomotive’s chimney could trigger embankment and forest fires. For safety reasons, the train will therefore be pulled by a replacement locomotive.

There will be no changes to the schedule or the rest of the program. We appreciate your understanding and look forward to your visit.

After the special train arrives at Bad Ischl (train station), there will be a festive
reception of the imperial couple and the traditional associations, together with the
passengers of the “special train” by delegations from the city of Bad Ischl.

This is followed by a festive parade, impressively accompanied by a 10-horse carriage procession and marching bands, featuring the city’s guests of honor, folk costume associations, delegations from traditional regiments, and passengers in
historical costumes through the historic town to the spa gardens.
In the spa gardens, the Emperor’s Festival is celebrated in style.
