Ukrainian feminist Inna Shevchenko invites female priests, imams, and rabbis to an open discussion about religion and feminism. Can women’s rights be reconciled with religious traditions? Can traditional religions accept gender equality?

Sculptures, caricatures, photography, body art, and literature are key elements of the film because, as Verena Soltiz explains, their messages touch the heart more directly. “Girls and Gods” asks: Are time-honored traditions really as unshakable as we think? The film shows just how much room for change exists within these traditions.

For this year’s summer film series, we’ve decided to screen a film that courageously challenges existing power structures.
