Experience in a moving mixture of music and text the origin story of "Silent Night, Holy Night," one of the world's most famous and beloved Christmas songs, created in 1818 in Oberndorf near Salzburg by Joseph Mohr and Franz Xaver Gruber out of necessity, and which embarked on an incredible triumph around the world.

Dr. Klaus Sauerbeck, in the role of a close friend of Silent Night poet Joseph Mohr, sensitively and empathetically narrates the song's history - a tale full of drama, emotion, and faith in God.

Between the stories, the well-known singer from radio and television, Reiner Kowalski, interprets many well-known German Christmas songs live, which are not only in tune with the exciting stories but also invite clapping and singing along, thereby creating a beautiful Christmas atmosphere in the church. 

Let yourself be taken into the world of Joseph Mohr while listening to the music and texts, and feel the magic of Christmas and the peace and joy of the Holy Night – here in Hintersee, where Joseph Mohr served as a parish vicar for nearly nine years.

This wonderful Christmas event will take place on Saturday, November 28, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. in the Parish Church of Hintersee. Doors open at 2:30 p.m.

Afterward, visit the small Advent market in Hintersee. In a reflective setting, Christmas delicacies, homemade goods, and warming beverages await. The Hintersee Trachten music band invites you to a musical Advent hour at 7:00 p.m. in the church.
