Quantum physics for everyone

24.04.2026 / 17:30- 21:30
Traunkirchen, Internationale Akademie Traunkirchen
Vorträge

On April 24, 2026, the International Academy Traunkirchen will open its doors to all those who are curious and hungry for knowledge: Immerse yourself in the fascinating world of quantum physics! Experience exciting presentations and amazing experiments that make the basis of this revolutionary science tangible.

Procedure
17:30: Presentation 1: Quantum physics phenomena and the technologies of tomorrow.
An introduction to quantum physics and the technologies of tomorrow using quantum physics.
Mirela Selimovic, University of Vienna, Faculty of Physics, Quantum Information Science and Quantum Computing / zerothird GmbH
"Quantum physics describes natural phenomena that are beyond our everyday imagination: Measurement results are fundamentally random, observations influence the behavior of systems, and objects that are far apart can be connected in surprising ways. In this lecture, you will hear how these unusual properties are used today, especially in quantum communication, and why quantum physics is not just a successful theory, but the driving force behind modern technologies. This is revealed through experiments, observations and joint reflection."
Quantum physics experiments to amaze you
See for yourself how these famous experiments work - and what they reveal about nature.
Simon Hüttner, Physics teacher, PH Upper Austria

18:30: Presentation 2: Beyond zero and one: how quantum computers turn the laws of physics into computing power.
Nina Brandl, Johannes Kepler University Linz, Institute for Integrated Circuits and Quantum Computing
"What happens when we stop just taming the laws of nature and start calculating directly with them instead? While classical computers are based on electrical circuits and the rigid logic of zero and one, quantum computers use the fundamental hardware of nature. In this lecture, you will learn how phenomena such as superposition, entanglement and interference form the basis of a completely new computing architecture. You will learn how quantum bits extend classical logic, which problems quantum computers can solve particularly efficiently and which challenges still exist."
19:00: More quantum physics experiments to marvel at
