From August 10 through 19, the series “My Half Hour of Bach” invites you to a special form of evening meditation every day at 8 p.m.
The program is further enhanced by the “Kyrie” and the first movement of the “Gloria” from Bach’s Mass in G Major, BWV 236, as well as the “Sanctus” in D Major, BWV 241, which masterfully round out the choral repertoire. In a concentrated, half-hour format, Bach unfolds in ever-changing timbres and perspectives: on the transverse flute or guitar, violin or cello, harpsichord, organ, or in a jazz ensemble. A wide variety of artists and ensembles approach his work—and bring to life just how timeless and adaptable this music is.
Among this year’s special highlights is violinist Franziska Strohmayr, who will kick off her annual “Culture Biathlon: From Mondsee to the Baltic Sea” as part of BachZeit —an extraordinary concert project in which she travels by violin and bicycle, bringing music to life across vast distances. This format combines artistic excellence with a spirit of adventure and a unique approach to the concert experience.
Also appearing is the internationally acclaimed guitarist Zsófia Boros, who has garnered worldwide attention with her distinctive, finely nuanced playing. Her interpretations are characterized by great tonal clarity, sensitivity, and emotional depth, offering a unique perspective on Bach’s music.
What sets BachZeit apart, however, is more than just the program: it is the encounters. Conversations about music at the church door, the warm get-togethers after the concerts, the palpable closeness between audience and musicians.
Thus, this year’s BachZeit in Mondsee will once again be far more than a festival—it will become a shared space for listening, exchange, and inspiration. An invitation not only to hear Bach, but to experience him together.
