The Mercedes Star Bridge is the largest Mercedes star in the world, with a diameter of 27 meters. It spans the confluence of the rivers Grundlseer and Altausseer Traun in Bad Aussee, the geographical center of Austria. A visit to this structure offers not only an impressive sight but also a unique view of the surrounding nature. An official Center Certificate as a memento of the visit is available at the tourism office.
If you follow the gentle rustle of water in the Kurpark, you will reach the confluence of the rivers Grundlseer and Altausseer Traun. This is spanned by an impressive pedestrian bridge: the circular Mercedes Star Bridge, which elegantly hovers above the water. Almost hidden from the ground, the clear shape of the largest Mercedes star in the world reveals itself only from the air. Designed in a circular shape, it connects the three riverbanks and thus creates short, pleasant paths between the various attractions at the edges of the waters.
Bad Aussee is not only a real centerpiece for all those connected to the Ausseerland region, as the spa town was determined to be the actual center of Austria in 1949 during a competition held by the "Große Österreich Illustrierte." Sixteen years after the erection of the center stone, a stone monument by the sculptor Erich Laufer, the Mercedes Star Bridge was also realized in the heart of Austria. It was constructed in 2005 on the occasion of the Styria State Exhibition "Fools and Visionaries – with a Pinch of Salt." Together with Daimler-Chrysler AG and Mercedes-Benz, the structure has since been hovering in the form of a Mercedes star over the confluence of the Altausseer and Grundlseer Traun, thus connecting the three river areas at the edge of the Kurpark.
Around the center of Austria, there is plenty to discover. Carried by the relaxing sounds of the water's rush, you can follow the movement of the water here and discover the highlights of each riverbank. Strolling through the picturesque Kurpark, visitors can admire the center stone, crafted from Fludergraben marble, or marvel at the impressive statue of Archduke Johann.
Ideal for families and children, the playground Kurpark is located on the opposite riverbank and features highlights such as a climbing wall, a hammock, and a slide. For relaxation and cooling off, there is a Kneipp facility located right next to it, which provides invigorating moments with Kneipp treatments for feet, arms, and knees. Scattered all the way to the waterfall, visitors can enjoy moments of tranquility surrounded by the sounds of water.
Fatigued from experiences and thoroughly rejuvenated, a personal souvenir of the visit to the geographical center of Austria awaits on the third riverbank of the Mercedes Star Bridge. At the Tourist Office Bad Aussee, the official Center Certificate can be issued, thus keeping the memories of a unique day here in the heart of Austria alive for a long time. No worries, the certificate can also be conveniently ordered from home in the online shop of the tourism association.
