Barbara-Stature
St. Gilgen, Salzburg, Österreich
On March 21, 1897, after years of planning work, the municipal authorities took the decision to break through the Kienberg Wall.
In the same year, construction work began on the first road link from Scharfling to See. In 1899 it is reported that "the new road Scharfling - See through the Kienberg wall was already very busy this year with wagons, especially cyclists and tourists. "1)
In 1999, a rockfall made it necessary to block the road. When the new road tunnel was opened in 2004, a niche with the statue of St. Barbara was built at the tunnel entrance as a thank you for the accident-free, difficult construction work.
