Freinberger gravestone

Mondsee am Mondsee, Oberösterreich, Österreich
In the Mondsee book of Dr. med. Walter Kunze it is reported that ".... Caspar Freinberger 1464 in his will his house at the Steinerbach and the farm in Höribach are dedicated to a citizen hospital ". He also explains: "At that time, the term 'citizen hospital' did not mean a hospital, but a house for impoverished and needy citizens, some of which had the character of a nursing home. ... From 1502 to 1938 the house Dr.-Müller-Straße 3 (today's tourism office) existed as Mondseer Bürgerspital. "8)

The gravestone of the founder of the Bürgerspital Freinberger can be seen in the entrance area of the tourist office (Dr. Franz Müller-Straße 3). The inscription reads:  "Anno dm 1464 on sand remigstag died the edl and veste kaspar freinperger of the present hospital stiffter the got genad - anna freinperger hausßfrau of the hospital co-founder has died ze anno dm 1506 erparm about sy bayd'ire children un all gelaubig." In the description next to it Dr. Ing. M. Lindenthaler quotes: "... The municipality Mondsee has therefore one of the oldest welfare institutions ... As early as the 16th century, a coat of arms of the hospital was described: "a shield enclosed by a hunter's horn, its natural form in a divided field, above yellow and below black and above the same shield an angel holding it." Coats of arms on the stone, as described, may represent the emblem of the founder.9)
