Ebensee - a village with a long and impressive history. Founded in 1604 as a salt production site, the company "Saline", were built in the centre of Ebensee. Today´s museum was at that time the seat of the saltworks administration. Till today, salt reduction and production characterises the entire "Salzkammergut". In 1607 the pipeline between "Halstatt" and "Ebensee" was built to transport brine between this two locations. This pipeline is the oldest one in the world.

From 26th to 30th December 2025 and 1st January till 2nd February 2026 daily opened from 1 p.m. till 5 p.m. (at the 5th January open vom 1 p.m. till 6 p.m.).

Important: Please note that the car parks around the municipal office up to the Rathauspark are subject to a daily charge from 08:00 to 18:00. You can buy a parking ticket per hour from the ticket machine, you can buy a day ticket too.
There are only very few parking spaces in the vicinity of the museum, near the church square.
