Exhibition of fossils and minerals in Bad Goisern at Lake Hallstatt

Visit the geological treasures of Mr. Franz Gassenbauer

The Dachstein Salzkammergut region is not only home to a number of classic fossil sites, but also numerous rock complexes bear the names of Upper Austrian localities, even entire geological units, such as the Hallstatt Ceiling with its special development extending far beyond the country, reminiscent of the Salzkammergut. Due to its historically far-reaching mining importance, it has early attracted the interest of mineralogists, but also geologists.

To name just a few of the most well-known names such as the "Dachsteinkalk", "Hierlatzkalk", "Plassenkalk", "Hallstatt limestone" or east of the Traun the names "Pötschenschichten" and "Zlambachmergel", not to mention the widely scattered "Gosauschichten" which occur on the edge of the Vienna Basin and the Bay of Graz as well as in numerous basins and valleys in the interior of the northern Limestone Alps.

In the private mineral and fossil museum of Franz Gassenbauer you can visit his collection at any time by appointment and learn a lot of interesting facts.
