One of the most beautiful sights in the World Heritage town of Hallstatt is certainly the historic market square, which is the venue for numerous events every year.
On Hallstatt 's historic market square you will find souvenir stores, cafés, restaurants and a bar. Take a leisurely stroll around the historic market square and enjoy the unique flair of the World Heritage town of Hallstatt .
While numerous concerts by the Salinenmusikkapelle are held here in summer, the market square is transformed into a romantic pre-Christmas meeting place for young and old during the Advent season.
The layout of the market square dates back to the 14th century. In the center is the Holy Trinity Column, which was donated by a Hallstatt salt manufacturing couple in the middle of the 18th century. Plague columns, also known as Trinity Columns, are monuments that commemorate the time of the plague and were donated as thanks for the fact that the plague was over.
