The name comes from an old legend. It was once known as the "Vorderen Grubalm". "Wild" means "shy" in this instance, and "Jungfrauen" are innocent young maidens working in a rock crevice. Hence the name "Wildfrauenloch". Washing was hung out to dry in the sun, and when it came to harvesting the crops, the young women would come down to the valley and help the farmers.
Happiness and good fortune is to be found in the entire area which covers the Löckermoos and the little "Löckensee" mountain lake. This is a very romantic location, situated at approx. 1 400 metres above sea level, and surrounded by high mountain moorland.
The area is a perfect place for meditation as it is so remote and perfectly quiet. Lie down, open your eyes and watch the clouds floating in the sky. You will notice the birdsong and feel the gentle wind. Sense the energy, too, of the thousands of centuries old moorland beneath you. Sink deep into your mossy pillow as you immerse yourself in nature. The Löckensee small mountain lake is the perfect place to re-vitalise body and soul and is situated on the 10.000 year old Löckenmoos high above the Gosau Gritone quarries. It is surrounded by mountain pines and moorland vegetation.
