Energetic places in the woods

Some secret and mystic places hide around the Salzkammergut lakes.

Once the Falkenstein used to be one of the **most visited pilgrimage sites** all over Europe. More than 100.000 pilgrims went high above the **Wolfgangsee lake** to beg for healing from their sufferings.

Today **24 interaction points** at this lovely trail inform the hiker about its long history. And who knows, maybe squeezing through the famous “squeeze through rock” at the Falkenstein gives you new power for your stay in the Salzkammergut as well.

Around the **Mondsee lake** **religious landmarks** like chapels and wayside crosses have been digitally collected and connected with hiking trails. Those trails do not only lead you through a breathtaking landscape but also give you an idea about the eventful past of the region.

At **Fuschlsee** lake religious landmarks are changed with ancient water mills. Explore how once cereals were milled to flour by waterpower. Starting point is the cascade called “Plötz”.

**You like waterfalls and cascades?**

Some of them hide in the woods around the Salzkammergut lakes. The most famous is named **“Nixenfall”** (cascade of the mermaid) and is reachable via a short hiking tour near the **Attersee lake**. Also the waterfall in Kreuzstein at **Mondsee lake** is worth a visit not only for nature lovers.

 Wildly romantic natural waterfall in Kreuzstein at the foot of the Schafberg. From Mondsee drive towards Unterach and turn right at Burgau. You can then park your car here and follow the signs behind the former Hotel Kreuzstein directly to the romantic waterfall.
