Im Dorf 17, 4645 Grünau im Almtal
Relentlessly and precisely, Evelyn Grill dissects the anatomy of a crime. The boy is certainly talented, they call him "little Mozart" in the town. But now he's in jail - wrongly? We go layer by layer into the depths of his memory. Evelyn Grill reveals with almost painful sophistication, like a boy who grew up with his grandparents without friends and without a mother, who was raised and encouraged, pampered and humiliated by his grandfather, the school principal, an authority in the town, became a suspect, perhaps even a murderer. Because grandma is dead, killed with a hoe and grandpa was in the inn when it happened.
Evelyn Grill masterfully pulls the strings of this cruel novel about everyday meanness and the longing for recognition.
Evelyn Grill, born in Garsten in 1942, studied law in Linz. She has been working as a freelance writer since 1980, lived in Freiburg im Breisgau until 2017, now again in Linz. In 2017 she received the Upper Austrian State Culture Prize for Literature.
