Gosau am Dachstein does not resemble a typical village at all, as the valley stretches for over 14 kilometres to the Gosau lakes, where you can look out over the Dachstein glacier. In winter and summer alike, you can quickly reach lofty heights or one of the many Alpine pastures. The valley itself is dotted with pretty houses and guesthouses, with space and air for relaxation and outdoor action everywhere in between. [**More about Gosau and why it's worth spending your holiday here.**](https://dachstein.salzkammergut.at/en/visitor-information/our-world-heritage/artikel/detail/8623/holidays-gosau-at-dachstein.html) **The Dachstein West ski region** --------------------------------- What is a wonderful hiking paradise in summer is the [**largest ski region in Upper Austria - Dachstein West**](https://dachstein.salzkammergut.at/en/oesterreich-poi/detail/430000469/skiregion-dachstein-west-gosau-russbach-annaberg.html) in winter. The Dachstein West ski region includes the 3 villages of Gosau am Dachstein, Russbach and Annaberg. The Gosau part of the Dachstein West ski region includes the Hornspitz including Fredyland and the somewhat more challenging Zwieselalm. The **160 kilometres of perfectly groomed pistes** offer something for everyone. For **families with children**, the Dachstein West ski area has long been one of the **best places in the Alps**. The magic carpet, Fredyland and first turns ensure happy faces for the kids, while parents enjoy relaxing hours carving and stopping for a bite to eat. **Fun & romance in the snow** --------------------------------- However, Gosau doesn't just offer unique fun on the slopes, but also other winter sports activities such as **cross-country skiing** (60 kilometres of trails), **tobogganing**, **curling**, **snowshoeing**, **ski touring** or **comfortable winter hiking** are very popular and enjoyable. You can experience [**Gosau on a horse-drawn sleigh**](https://dachstein.salzkammergut.at/en/oesterreich-poi/detail/430014579/pferdeschlittenfahrt-in-gosau.html) in a very special way. Wrapped up in warm blankets, you are pulled on a sleigh by two snorting horses through the dreamy, snow-covered winter wonderland. A horse-drawn sleigh ride through Gosau is so beautiful and romantic that it can't be beaten. As a special highlight, **night-time horse-drawn sleigh rides** are also offered. Time seems to stand still as you ride along the Gosau stream under the clear, deep black starry sky and all you can hear is the crunching of the snow and the jingling bells of the horses. **Our Gosau tip:** A romantic walk along the Gosau stream offers you unrivalled views of the Gosaukamm and the surrounding mountains.
