According to oral tradition, a music band was founded in Lambach in 1850. The initiative to found it probably came from the teacher Johann Wittmann. Johann Wittmann was a pupil of Josef and Michael Haydn. Charity concerts in the monastery in 1864 and 1865 have been recorded. In 1876, the band was incorporated into the fire brigade. The uniform of the musicians was also immediately identical to that of the fire brigade. The merger with the fire brigade led to a significant increase in activities. By the end of the 19th century, there was hardly a religious or secular festival without the participation of the band.
At that time, rehearsals took place in the Lenzeder inn. In some cases, the musicians had to walk for kilometres from the surrounding communities (e.g. Wimsbach, Neukirchen or Schwanenstadt) to attend rehearsals. However, an additional incentive to attend rehearsals was often a barrel of free beer.
