A total of 111 of the roughly 1000 known settlements in Austria, Switzerland, Germany, France, Slovenia, and Italy are under UNESCO protection. Apart from the three locations on Lake Attersee (Litzlberg Süd, Abtsdorf 1 and 3), the settlement 'See' on Lake Mondsee and an island in the Lake Keutschacher See in Carinthia also bear this desirable title.
