The **Elmsee** is located at an altitude of approximately **1,623 m** in the southern **Toten Gebirge** within the **municipality of Grundlsee**, **Ausseerland**, **Styria**. The small, surface drainage-less **Trogsee** is nestled in a **karst landscape** made of **Dachstein limestone** and is drained underground through the **Lahngangsee** into the **Toplitzsee**. At the foot of the **[Elmsee](https://www.ausseerland.at/en/elmsee)** lies the **[Pühringerhütte](https://www.ausseerland.at/en/puehringerhuette)**, a **shelter** of the Austrian Alpine Club, which serves as a starting point for further high alpine tours. The **Elmsee** is a rewarding destination for experienced mountain hikers who appreciate the tranquility and authenticity of the alpine landscape of the **Ausseerland**.
