The Almtal may call itself Austria's largest forest region and is Europe's first Waldness destination. The Tourist Office Traunsee-Almtal Salzkammergut includes the places Altmünster, Ebensee, Gmunden, Traunkirchen, Grünau, Scharnstein, St.Konrad, Vorchdorf, Bad Wimbsbach, Pettenbach, Laakirchen, Pinsdorf, Ohlsdorf, Gschwandt, Kirchham. Even the ancient Romans recognized the enchanting effect of Lake Traun and described it as "lacus felix", the happy lake. The Traunsee-Almtal Salzkammergut region offers art and culture, tradition and customs as well as unlimited sports and hiking opportunities, but also space and time to simply dangle with the soul.
