A success story --------------- SUP advanced from a means of transport used by Polynesian fishermen to a worldwide trend sports device - the sport originated in Tahiti and Hawaii, where it was used by fishermen to get around on the water and surf instructors kept an eye on their protégés. In the 1970s, the so-called gondolies were very popular on the French coast. Worldwide, SUP has gained enormous popularity in the last 10 years. Decisive for the popularity are the easy procurement and handling of the inflatable boards. The right SUP board for everyone -------------------------------- There are also different types of boards for stand-up paddling, starting with the differentiation between hardboards and inflatable boards, also called iSUPs (inflatable SUP). Of course, there are different widths and lengths under both categories. The Allrounder is a good board for beginners, the width leaves enough space for the equipment. It is also easier to keep your balance on. The white water board is wider, shorter and more robust than other boards and - as the name suggests - suitable for white water. Racing boards are longer and narrower, therefore more suitable for SUP professionals. The wide SUP range also includes boards for surfing and fishing, but also for children and families. It is hard to imagine Austria's lakes without stand-up paddling, or SUP for short, which has become a well-known and popular recreational sport. Armed with a board and paddle, you go out on the water to glide along the surface and discover new places again and again. Hardly any other sport is so deeply relaxing, yet challenging. The steady paddling lets you forget the stress of everyday life and enjoy nature in peace. From the perspective of the lake, there are always new perspectives on the fantastic landscape of the Salzkammergut. The beauty of stand-up paddling is that the sport is very easy to learn. A little sense of balance and a basic level of fitness are enough. Many water sports centres offer SUP boards and paddles for hire, as well as beginner courses. Whether alone on your own board or with like-minded people in a SUP course - there are numerous possibilities for SUP fans. In addition to various courses and taster courses, the SUP providers in the Salzkammergut also offer sundowner tours, i.e. SUPing at sunset, yoga on the board or even winter SUPing on the varied programme. However, SUP enthusiasts who are out and about with their own board are not allowed to simply paddle off on all lakes!
