Mountain Biking in the Salzkammergut

Mountain biking goes with the Salzkammergut like a traditional hat goes with the typical leather trousers. Throughout the region, nature-loving locals are putting on their cycling gear and going mountain biking to forget stresses of everyday life.

It's no wonder that more and more friends of cycling choose to visit the Salzkammergut with its wide selection of mountain bike trails - after all, there are now over 60 trails to choose from.

Those looking for that special something … the icing on the cake ... will find it in the Salzkammergut.  There are forest roads, single tracks, and downhills, plus the Salzkammergut Mountain Bike Centre, which provides the perfect all-round service.

To list all the highlights here would be a bit over the top, but here are three unbeatable deals:

Downhill Trail Feuerkogel

Adrenaline junkies will definitely get their fix on the Feuerkogel in the Traunsee area.  5.6 kilometres long with a drop of 1600 vertical metres are the key words that describe this mountain bike downhill trail.  In the summer months the Feuerkogel cable car takes all downhill fans to the start of the trail.  A free bike wash facility is available at the end of the trail.

Tauplitz Alpine Road

A treat for those who prefer to ride down rather than uphill is the 4-seater chairlift (free bike transport) in Tauplitz. The Tauplitzalm is the biggest lake plateau in Europe and offers a unique mountain panorama. After a visit to a cosy mountain hut enjoy the approximately 9 km ride down the alpine road.

Ewige Wand

In July every year, more than 4000 mountain bikers enjoy the view from the Ewige Wand down into the Goisern valley. This stretch of the Salzkammergut Mountain Bike Trophy is not only available during this event. It can also be used all year round, with or without a mountain bike. It is part of several different routes, for example, the World Championship course, the Kaiser tour, as well as the Raschenberg tour.
