Around 6,000 years ago - at the end of the Neolithic Age - people settled in the Mondseeland. Celts, Romans and Bavarians followed later. From the middle of the 8th century onwards, the founding of the monastery, initiated by Duke Odilo from Bavaria, shaped this habitat and made the Mondseeland a region of great cultural and art history.
