Calvary, Bad Ischl Ischl

Bad Ischl, Oberösterreich, Österreich
Cultural and Sacral Place The Kalvarienberg is a very special place to find peace and contemplation away from the hustle and bustle of the imperial city of Bad Ischl. Green meadows and trees frame the baroque "Kalvarienberg Church", the surrounding "Holy Ascencion Chapel" and the four "Way of the Cross" chapels. It is not for nothing that the buildings are under monument protection, because each one testifies to the artistic craftsmanship of the builders.

The history of the "Kalvarienberg" goes back a long way, the construction is documented between the years 1704 and 1706 - as the second one in the Salzkammergut region. In 1706 the "Kalvarienberg Church" was inaugurated in a solemn procession. The facade of the church, visible from afar, is something very special: nine almost life-size terracotta figures of the "judgement of Jesus" in three groups greet all passer-bys.

Inside the church, visitors can also look forward to a number of special features: a baroque ceiling fresco from around 1779 or the baptismal font made exclusively from regional materials in 2010.
