The nostalgic atmosphere of various Christmas markets is a magical experience for everyone visiting the Salzkammergut.
Every weekend in Advent arguably the most charming Austrian Christmas markets open their doors. Every Christmas market in the Salzkammergut is special in its own way. Advent around Wolfgangsee (Lake Wolfgang) is rich in tradition and has plenty to offer: thousand lights, a romantic cruise across the lake and idyllic Christmas markets in St. Wolfgang, St. Gilgen and Strobl await you there. Moreover, the Christmas markets in Mondsee (“Advent in Mondsee”) and the so-called “Traunsee Schlösseradvent” in Gmunden are extremely charming and definitely worth a visit. You can find even more small and atmospheric Christmas markets at the “Advent der Dörfer” (“Advent of Towns”) in several villages in the area surrounding Fuschlsee. A special atmosphere surrounds the old imperial city of Bad Ischl in the weeks leading up to Christmas. You can visit numerous events in order to bridge the waiting time for “Christkind” - the Austrian equivalent to Father Christmas. Holidays full of variety are guaranteed!

Advent at Wolfgangsee
Thousand Christmas lights shine bright around Wolfgangsee and a giant floating Peace of Light Lantern is visible from afar.
