Arrival and departure

By train: Salzburg Central Station is an ideal starting point and easily accessible from Vienna, Graz or Munich. Bad Ischl, Bad Aussee or Attnang-Puchheim are also recommended.

By car: The Westautobahn A1 and the federal highways of the Salzkammergut open up all main towns of the Salzkammergut.

The best season

The best months for a trip are May, June, September and October. In July and August, the Salzkammergut lakes have high season, which can mean more traffic on the streets and problems with quarters for one night.

The suited bike

Ideal sind moderne Trekkingräder mit 21-Gang-Übersetzung. Tourenräder oder City Bikes mit weniger Gängen sind wegen der Steigungen an der Strecke weniger geeignet.

Accommodation

Accommodation is available in almost every location along the route. Outside the mid-summer months, getting a room for just one night should not be a problem. The local tourist boards are happy to help with the search. In July and August, it is recommended to book in advance every day.
