World Heritage Advent

Advent in the Hallstatt-Dachstein-Salzkammergut World Heritage Region is always a very special time of year and is closely linked with local tradition and art. There are numerous time-honoured events and celebrations taking place throughout the entire region. We hope that you will join us and enter the pre-Christmas spirit.

Welterbe Advent 2011

The series of Advent events starts with the laid-back and quaint Gosau Mountain Christmas. that creates a great Christmas atmosphere in the entire area surrounding the Local Heritage Museum on the first two Advent weekends (26 to 27 November, 3 to 4 November).

The scent of punch and the crackling of the open fire invite to while away some time.
Horse-drawn carriage rides, Christmas songs and local crafts form a varied programme.

On 3 December we drive to Obertraun, because St. Nicholas crosses the lake to get to the children.

Since we are brave we also visit the big Salzkammergut Krampus parade in Bad Goisern on 7 December. More than 600 Krampus and Perchten figures await us there.

On a visit of the Hallstatt Christmas Market 8 to 10 December we are captivated by the homey and contemplative ambiance created by music, crafts and traditional culinary delights in the area around the big lit Christmas tree.

The 3rd Advent weekend 9 to 11 December continues in a masterly fashion in Bad Goisern.

Here we can watch craftsmen at work and also spend some time in the romantic courtyard of Schloss Neuwildenstein castle.
A varied supporting programme completes the programme of the Masters’ Advent weekend.
