Spotlight: Arts and Culture

Salzkammergut is diverse in history, heritage, and culture.

It is an area where one can still experience centuries-old folk traditions that are unique to this region, that form and mould the identity of its communities and that tie together the picturesque villages and towns. Salzkammergut is one of Austria’s remaining strongholds of genuine and authentic customs, that still reflects a certain imperial conceit in its architecture, much of it left over from the heyday of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.

Festivals throughout the year inject fresh life into the area, and with highly regarded exhibitions and cultural events, Salzkammergut is the destination for those wishing to experience the contemporary arts and culture.

Plan on taking in the diverse offerings of the area's heritage and immerse yourself in ancient myths and legends.

History, customs, traditions, and contemporary culture will be your companions as you discover the charms of Salzkammergut.
