We start at the 1000 year old lime tree in Faistenau and ride downhill out of the village in the direction of Hintersee Lake, cross over the national road and then follow the signs on the smaller roads downhill into the district of Vordersee. We come onto the Landesstraße, pass the Hintersee Lake (bathing areas) and keep left at the fork in the road, heading uphill, where a gravel track curves at first uphill and then along flat terrain.
At the fork after approx. 3 km we carry straight on and roll downhill into the Schafbach Valley. We cross the bridge and afterwards turn left. It now continues uphill, we keep to the left and follow the signs to the alpine pasture hut of Schafbachalm. Shortly before and at the Schafbachalm we keep to the right at the forks in the road. A stop in this cozy and welcoming (running) alpine inn is to be recommended.
Taking a left at the parking areas one can also reach the Schafbergalm alpine inn (see tour 2 »Schafberg«). We continue downhill. At the turn-off to the working Alm - Grögernalm we turn left and bend round and down into the valley towards Tiefbrunnau. The asphalt road soon begins again, we ride left over a small bridge and onto the Tiefbrunnau Straße back to our starting point - Faistenau.
Recommended Excursion: Nature lovers can also make a trip on foot from Hintersee to the Eiskapelle Chapel (after the lake turn left, walk with your bike to the beginning of the hiking path, it is 30 minutes to the Eiskapelle, a shadowy end of the valley where there is nearly always some snow, even in summer).
