Hongar-Gahberg Loop Trail

The Hongar-Gahberg Trail offers two fantastic routes for enjoying the landscape and nature around Gahberg Mountain in a sporty way.

The Facts

Start: Aurach
End: Aurach
Length: 2.5 hours or ½-hour
Difficulty: 3

Starting at the Aurach municipal office there are two accesses to the mountain bike trail.

From Aurach you ride through the village of Kasten on top of Hongar Mountain (6km-long haul trail) to Almgasthaus Schwarz at an altitude of 900m.

After a break and having enjoyed the fantastic panoramic view of the mountains of the Salzkammergut area and the mountains of the Mühlviertel area in the north the trail leads you 900m down to the car park of the ski lift. There you take a left turn and follow the sign-marked forestry trail. Pass Almbründl Fountain to get to Loitzenwiese Pasture (resting area with natural pond). From there you can ride down to Halbmoos and back to Aurach or continue on the left to Gahberg Mountain.

At Gahberg Mountain you can either follow the haul trail to Weyregg am Attersee and return back to Aurach past Schörfling, or follow the forestry trail down to Sicking bei Schörfling. From there you get to Hainbach past the village of Fantaberg (rest station at Hacklhof farm) and return to Aurach from there.

At Gahberg Mountain a mountain bike trail leads to the Langbathsee Cycling Trail or the Richtberg Loop Trail.

A shorter option is riding from Aurach past Kasten to Halbmoos and then following the uphill the forestry trail to Loitzenwiese pasture (1/2 hour). After a break you ride uphill Hongar Mountain and then back to Aurach.
