Tour around the Dachstein

The 173km round-tour of the Dachstein Region has all the makings of a pulse-raising adventure for bikers. The scenery is magnificent and the terrain challenging.

Length: 173 km
With : 4.600m of altitude it is no mean challenge. However, you do not have to complete the whole course in one day. On average, experienced bikers take three days over the event.

It is surely one of the most impressive tours, with the omnipresent breathtaking prospect of the Dachstein in all its majesty and wilderness accompanying you throughout. The Dachstein is situated in the heart of Austria, surrounded by three major provinces: Salzburg, Upper Austria and Styria.

The route covers 170 picturesque kilometres. It covers all kinds of terrain but is not over-strenuous. The route can be joined from various locations whether it be from the edge of the Upper Austrian Salzkammergut, from Styria or the "Tauern" motorway exit near Salzburg.

Throughout the tour a qualified mountain bike tour guide
accompanies you. He has a intimate knowledge of the route
and will give you tips and give advice on improving your technique.

We cycle past the petrol station at St Agatha at the foot of the Poetschen Pass, continue along the main road and turn leftafter the bridge. Here we begin our ascent of the old "Poetschen Road", past the "Sarstein" until we reach the summit of the pass. From here we travel right along the forest path up to the "Hoeheralm"(mountain pasture) and then down to the Sommersberg lake.
