This cycle tour is especially attractive, as it runs mostly through pastures and woods and along riverbanks, is virtually climb-free and suitable for the whole family.
Starting from Walchen Castle, you ride in the direction of Maulham and cross the railway track. After a further 500m, you turn right at the crossroads and continue downhill in the direction of Reichenthalham. In Reichenthalham, you pass the popular Nußbaumer country inn (a good place to stop). Continuing on the right, you ride past the premises of a construction company after which comes a gravel path that leads directly into the woods.
The next part of the tour consists entirely of a delightful landscape comprised of trees and pasture and leads to the Aumühle crossroads.
Here, you turn right over the bridge and move on to the water station of the Reinhalteverband (Water Treatment Association) from where you follow an asphalted agricultural road in the direction of Eggenberg, where you turn left over the bridge. The route then again leads though woodland, after which you reach the Kinzl-Mühle (mill). Once past the mill, you turn left onto the road and at the Aich junction, right in the direction of St. Georgen. Having ridden past the “Lagerhaus”, you cross the railway track and cycle along the Bahnhofstrasse to the fire services depot. You then continue along the Raiffeisengasse until you reach the Johann-Beer-Strasse, which you cross to face the “Attergauer Cathedral”, the parish church of Hl. Georg (St.George). This contains an interesting baroque pulpit by Meinrad Guggenbichler and an altar painting by Bartolomeo Altomonte.
If you have enough time, you can now continue along the Attergaustrasse and after a long left-hand curve (opposite the “Gold. Schiff” inn) there is a small park on the left with a 1,000-year-old linden tree. In the past, this massive tree (which has been hollowed out by lightning) served as a place of jurisdiction and could therefore probably tell many fascinating stories.
