The most significant Salzkammergut flair one may get by walking up the Lichtenberg. There are several ways possible to get there.
The most popular one with secluded places leads us through the forest „Klauswald“.
We start at the town center of St. Georgen and follow the street to Straß im Attergau. After about 15 minutes we reach the village Thalham. Along the Güterweg Lichtenberg, passing the forester`s lodge Thalham we come straight to the forest “Klauswald”. About 2,5 km further we follow the sing at the right hand side up to the Lichtenberg (Hubert- Gantioler- Weg). Approximately one hour of walking later a gorgeous plateau appears in front of us.
From here it takes us around 20 minutes to the Attergauer observation tower where at a height of 32 metres the stunning mountain range of the Salzkammergut literally lies at one`s feet.
Now we have deserved a stop at the comfortable Berghof Danter and the family Höchsmann. Brace yourself with a hearty snack or a delicious meal from the kitchen-chef Helga.
